The Premiership served up a festive treat
as Arsenal v Liverpool opened up the Christmas proceedings. A 3-3 draw was thrilling for the neutral but a point each does nothing for either team. Perhaps on reflection Liverpool will rue some wasteful finishing from Salah, Firmino and co, the game should have been done by half-time, instead it was a couple of deflections that seemingly put them out of site. Indeed on 52 minutes only a brave or foolish man would have predicted anything other tan a routine Liverpool win, but this is football and this is why we love it!
The first gift was
atrocious marking from a cross allowing the Sanchez with an easy header, a second and even bigger present came from a Xhaka speculative shot that should have been dealt with by Liverpool ‘keeper Mignolet and then a well worked goal saw Ozil clip the ball over the clown goalkeeper to put Arsenal ahead in the space of a few crazy minutes.
The game always looked like producing more goals and it was merely a toss up whether it finished 4-2 or 3-3. Possibly Cech could have been stronger with the hand and stopped the third goal, but he didn’t and a draw it was.
Surely both managers will have a wish list for the January transfer window, top of Klopp’s list must be a solid goalie who won’t throw away points on his own, and for Wenger it must be simple, get a good centre-back and a tenacious midfielder, or as always the wheels will come off when the weather gets worse and the ball players don’t fancy a wet Wednesday up North…
We’ll see what comes with the rest of the fixtures over the weekend, one thing we do know is that Man City will just keep putting more distance between them and the pack!
